Welcome to the world of Sporty Chic…

Sporty Chic – Day 1

Moms are the most active group of people on Earth.  We do more in a day than most people do in a week.  There is no lounging with moms.  Lounging stopped when the first contraction started and we haven’t sat down since.  From the moment we open our eyes in the morning (or some small person pries our eyes open for us) to the moment our heads hit the pillow, moms are on the move.

And yet, somehow this doesn’t translate into fitness.   Somehow, me carrying groceries and bicycles to the car and dancing around like an idiot in Mommy and Me music class doesn’t give me six-pack abs I’ve always hoped for.  In fact, quite the opposite has happened.  After three kids and gaining sixty pounds while pregnant with each of them, my stomach looks more like a drooping Salvador Dali painting.  Just the other day August and I were playing with Matchbox cars on the couch and he decided to use the extra skin on my stomach as a carport for one of his cars…  So this is what rock bottom feels like, I thought…

That’s where Sporty Chic comes in.   For many moms, it could very well be the answer to our fashion woes.  Sporty chic takes our day into consideration – The clothes are cute, comfortable and can be thrown in the wash.  And you can move in them.  If your kid gets stuck in a germ infested ball pit at Chick-fil-a, you can just jump right in and grab them.  No need to worry about high heels or dry cleaning bills.  Think Athleta… Think Lululemon… Think of those cute moms that everyone hates who run while pushing their children in a jogging stroller.  Now you can look like those moms without having to push your children in a jogging stroller!

With every outfit this month for Sporty Chic, I will ask myself –

Do I look sporty without looking like I’m about to play a sport?

Am I wearing chic shoes that I can run and play in?

Can this outfit last me all day?  Meaning — Is the outfit functional enough for the park, yet nice enough to wear out to lunch with friends?

That is the essence of Sporty Chic.   Looking active without necessarily being fit.  Who knows?  Maybe this style will make me want to exercise more…  If my style quest has taught me anything, it’s taught me that clothes have so much more power than we think…  Maybe these clothes will have the power to get me to the gym.

Or at the very least, maybe these clothes will have the power to get me to buy some spray tanner…
