The best afternoon energy boost

As a mom, I have a preoccupation with things that give me energy in the afternoon.  I wake up at five every morning, so by three in the afternoon, I am sooooo done.  And yet, I have so much more of the day to go.  The hardest part of the day, as far as I’m concerned — making dinner, helping with homework, playing legos (a sure-fire way to get me to pass out) and the worst, bath time.  If one of my kids asks me to read a book to them in the afternoon, I have to do it standing up like I’m some librarian at story time, otherwise I will die.

For years I guzzled iced coffee to keep me going, but honestly, it didn’t really work.  I tried to convince myself that it worked and added a lot of sugar to it to make sure that it worked, but it just made me jittery and weird.  Then I switched to iced green tea which also didn’t really work but at least it was healthier for me.  Then I started drinking a green veggie drink which totally works but requires me to make one with my juicer at home and some afternoons I just don’t feel like making juice and then cleaning the juicer.

Then I discovered wheat grass juice that you can have sent to your home.  Look, I know wheatgrass juice is disgusting.  I would never try to convince you that it tastes like anything other than a big pile of grass in your mouth.  But here’s what it does for you —

“Wheatgrass juice is a powerful concentrated liquid nutrient. Two ounces of wheatgrass juice has the nutritional equivalent of five pounds of the best raw organic vegetables. For example, wheatgrass as twice the amount of Vitatin A as carrots and is higher in Vitamin C than oranges! It contains the full spectrum of B vitamins, as well as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium and potas-sium in a balanced ratio. Wheatgrass is a complete source of protein, supplying all of the essential amino acids, and more. In addition to flooding the body with therapeutic dosages of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, enzymes, and phytonutrients, wheatgrass is also a powerful detoxifier, especially of the liver and blood. It helps neutralize toxins and environmental pollutants in the body. This is because Wheatgrass contains beneficial enzymes that help protect us from carcinogens, including Superoxide Disumates (SOD), that lessens the effects of radiation and digest toxins in the body. It cleanses the body from head to toe of any heavy metals, pollutants and other toxins that may be stored in the body’s tissues and organs.”

To me, that’s enough to convince me to drink it.

I ordered my wheatgrass juice from a place called, Dynamic Greens.  It’s gets shipped to you overnight frozen and then you just keep it in your freezer until you feel like you need it.  All you do is clip off a little packet, soak it in warm water, and drink!  It’s so easy.

And the best part — It has eliminated my afternoon slump.  Seriously.  As soon as I feel myself getting tired, I just take one out of the freezer, melt it, gag it down and I’m back in business!

I can even read Clifford the Big Red Dog while sitting down on the couch without falling asleep at three o’clock in the afternoon.

And I can give no higher praise than that to any other product on Earth.
