Remembering Prince…

I promise this won’t be a soppy tribute to Prince.  I won’t tell you where I was the first time I heard “Purple Rain” or that I used to dress like Sheila E. in high school. (I’m not admitting anything.)  Sure, I loved Prince’s music, but I loved Prince’s weirdness even more.  Anyone who remains true to themselves is my hero and man, that was Prince.  Let’s take the fact that he was from Minnesota — this tiny little guy that’s an incredible musician and dresses like a figure skater — And what does he do when he becomes world famous?  He continues to live in Minnesota.  That’s just weird.  And I loved it.

So if you’re like me and feeling sad about the loss of Prince, I wanted to show you something in case you’ve never seen it.  It kind of gives you a little peek into what Prince was actually like and the story comes from Eddie Murphy’s brother, Charlie.  Confused?  Let me explain.

Charlie Murphy used to tell “celebrity encounter” stories on The Dave Chappelle show.  They were super funny and you understood what it was like to be a sibling of a very famous person.

My two favorites are Charlie Murphy’s meeting with Rick James (you must watch) and Charlie Murphy’s story about playing basketball with Prince.

Enjoy — And go purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.  R.I.P. Prince.
