I go through a lot of emotions about blogging. Here are just some of them —
— creepy that I’m over-sharing
— futile… Why am I doing this? Does anyone really care?
— stressed. It’s like having homework all the time.
— happy. Yes, overall, happy. I like it. I like connecting with people. I like it when someone says I’ve made them laugh. I like it when I meet someone over the internet that I never ever would have met otherwise.
So why haven’t I been blogging for months? Well, because my life has changed in a very big way.
(Drum roll) I got a job.
I have been a stay-at-home mom for 13 years and now I am back at work. Did I go back to work because I was sick and tired of cleaning the house and making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for my kids all day? No, not at all. I love being with my kids and besides, I gave up cleaning years ago. Did I go back to work because I needed to be more intellectually stimulated? Sadly, no. I’m fine watching Bubble Guppies and sitting in my pajamas all day. Well then, why?
Money. We completely, totally, epically ran out of money. I’m talking POOR, like wearing a barrel poor. Like living under a bridge poor… eating spoiled meats poor.
I will go into the details about our poorness in upcoming blogs. I can finally write about it with some perspective and humor now that we aren’t so poor anymore. By some miracle I got a job writing on a TV show. In Hollywood. Which is no where near our farm.
Now the whole family and I are commuting back and forth to Los Angeles.
… which is completely insane and challenging and fun and depressing and exciting and horrible all rolled into one big “let’s not be poor anymore” package.
So that’s where I’ve been. Don’t worry, the farm animals are fine although it’s killing me only to be able to see them on weekends. Many times I’ve thought, How can I sneak a pig onto a studio lot?
I have a lot to say about what’s been happening and even though it might be creepy, I will say it here because blogging makes me happy.
Also, I write for a great magazine called, Sonoma Family Life. They were kind enough to write a little thing about me in this month’s magazine, so if you’d like to read it, here it is! (And Melissa, you made my life seem so glamorous — thank you!)
So, that’s what is going on with me. I have to take a shower now and go to work.
Wait, WHAT?????? WTF???? OMG!!!! How did this happen????? Aaaahhhhhh!!!!!
Yay! Looking forward to reading more about your triumphant return to Hollywood screenwriting in your blog, and eventually, your comic memoir. You have a platform and audience; here’s hoping for a big book deal. In the meantime, I’ll be enjoying your adventures vicariously. Escaping in the middle of the night from sleeping kids and getting “me” time en route is a working mother’s dream.
Thanks! Boy I get the working mother thing now — it’s sooooooooooo hard!!!!! Good god it’s a challenge.
Hooray! I’ve missed you. I hear you on the money problems. But happy to hear you’ve found work and I can’t wait to hear more about it. Good for you!
Thanks! It’s good to be on the road to fixing things…
Super bummer, I was totally in LA for the last 6 days and wish we could have met up while I was there!
I saw that you were at Blogher! I wish we could’ve hooked up.
Hurray you’re back!! I missed your writing a lot. Got worried you had just quietly quit. You have been a part of my life since your fashion adventures / misadventures. Sorry to hear about the money stress, but really interested to read your thoughts on it.
Phew! Just so happy you are here!!
Wow. That’s such a nice thing to say. Thank you!
Holly, I’ve also followed your blog since the Year of … posts, and am so glad you are back. You are hilarious and real and I’m looking forward to future posts.
Thank you!
Hi holly,
I wish you all the best in your endeavours. Please continue to blog whenever you find free time. I missed your hilarious writeups very much, there were times when only your blog could make me laugh and light the hope inside me…..keep going…never give up!
Thank you
Thank you so much. I will. As they saying goes, Never, never, never give up!
I’ve followed along since your year of style challenge and was wondering where you went! I look forward to hearing about your newest adventures. No surprise you were hired to write… you’re freaking hilarious!
Wow! Thanks so much. It feels good to be back blogging.
I love this blog… Holly writes with more humor and honesty about the most interesting life of anyone I know… hers. I’m glad she’s back!
Brian — you know, I just love you!
So at the risk of being unintentionally creepy, Brian introduced me to your blog via twitter when you first started. I’ve been enjoying it ever since. So happy you’re back, Holly!
Not creepy at all. And I love Brian! Thanks for finding me!
Whoa! Can’t wait to hear all about it! :)
I can’t wait to unload it all on ya!
Wowie zow! Congrats and where are you staying when you are in LA? would you consider coming to my house for dinner one night? All of you… I’m serious…
I would love to come to your house for dinner! Either me or all of us!
Glad things are getting better. Being poor sucks. Been there. Done it. Will do a lot to never be back there!
Yes. Poor is really scary. I had no idea and it’s been a real lesson.
Sorry about the poorness, but glad you’re okay and finding your way back to prosperity. Poverty sucks, and many of us have been there, so we can relate. Looking forward to your future blogs. Now get in the shower – you’re going to be late! :-)
Thanks! The more I admit to others about being poor the more I discover that a lot of us have had money problems. We just never talk about it!
